Alex Bruce has revealed he has heard that Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to start Fred in midfield against Tottenham on Friday night.
The United academy product and son of club legend Steve Bruce, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, explained how the 27-year-old Brazilian is set to get the nod ahead of Scott McTominay for the visit to north London.
The Red Devils return to Premier League action sitting fifth in the table, three points behind Chelsea in fourth.
Solskjaer will be able to call upon Paul Pogba on Friday, with the France international having missed much of the season through injury.
Bruce admits he is looking forward to seeing how the former Juventus ace links up with new Old Trafford favourite Bruno Fernandes and believes Fred will join them in a midfield trio.
Bruce told Football Insider: “I’m very excited, I think just before lockdown Manchester United were slowly getting back to where we all expect Man United to be.
“Obviously they’ve got the added influence of Pogba and Bruno Fernandes who will be a really, really good partnership in the centre of the park, that’s for sure.
“It’s going to be interesting to see who he plays, whether it’s going to be McTominay with them or Fred – I’m hearing that he’s going to go with Fred so we’ll have to wait and see how that midfield looks but when you look at them, they’re starting to look like a real strong outfit.
“If they all gel together like they hopefully will do, I think it will be good times ahead.”
Fred has 25 league games under his belt for Manchester United this season, with a further 14 appearances in cup competitions.
Meanwhile, Pogba has played just eight times across all competitions for Solskjaer, with his last Premier League start coming back in September.
In other Manchester United news, Darren Bent has named the likely Tottenham front six that they will face on Friday.
