Alex Bruce suggests Aston Villa chief Christian Purslow should take a leaf out of Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani’s book amid all the uncertainty surrounding football.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds centre-back claims the Villans’ chief executive is clearly “panicking” after his comments on the Premier League returning.

Purslow has publicly voiced his opposition to the use of neutral venues to complete the season and mooted the possibility of rule changes to deal with players missing if infected with Coronavirus.

However, Bruce has criticised the Villa man’s decision to speak out and believes he could follow the example set by Radrizzani at Elland Road.

Asked if he thought chairman and senior figures should refrain from speaking out publicly amid all the uncertainty, Bruce told Football Insider: “For me, yes, because when you see someone like Christian Purslow come out and say he wants this that and the other, he’s obviously panicking about the relegation.

“I think ultimately you’ve got to leave it to the governing bodies because there’s nothing you can really do to influence them because it’s them who are making the decisions.

“They’ve got a lot of clubs to think about and whatever they do, it will be for the benefit of everybody. I respect people like Radrizzani who have just kept their head down, let the powers that be make the decisions and respect them when those decisions have been made.”

While Leeds currently sit one point clear at the top of the Championship, Aston Villa are battling for survival at the bottom of the Premier League.

With the season suspended, Dean Smith’s men find themselves 19th in the table, two points behind Watford, West Ham and Bournemouth with a game in hand.
