Bruce is 'good choice' for Man United as Sir Alex pushes for surprise appointment - pundit

There is no reason why Steve Bruce cannot be a good interim manager for Man United, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Man United are a “mess” and have no idea what to do after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norweigan was relieved of his duties after the 4-1 loss to Watford at the weekend and a club statement confirmed they are set to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season.

A club source told Football Insider yesterday (November 23) that director and legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson has thrown his weight behind a shock return for Steve Bruce.

The former Man United defender, 60, is out of work after leaving Newcastle United last month but is keen to return to Old Trafford.

“They have not planned for this, I don’t think,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“If they had planned for this, Solskjaer would have been sacked in the international break. If Man United had drawn at Watford, he wouldn’t have been sacked.

“The manner of the defeat, the pressure from social media made them act. They didn’t have a plan and they still don’t have a plan.

“The manager they might want is probably not available at the moment. They have to bring in an interim manager, they’ve got no choice.

“It’s a bit of mess at Man United and it doesn’t look good.

“Bruce would be a good choice. He knows the club well and there’s no reason why not. But maybe they should look at a manager who has no association with the club.”
