'He's a top player' - Exclusive: Bruce raves about Rangers man who started v Leverkusen

Joe Aribo is a “top player” who has all the attributes to be a real force for Rangers.

That is according to the just-retired former Kilmarnock and Premier League defender Alex Bruce, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the versatile midfielder he played against earlier in the campaign.

Aribo was in the Rangers starting XI for last night’s 3-1 Europa League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen and has been a mainstay of the team during an encouraging debut campaign.

Bruce has been impressed by what he’s seen, both as an opponent and an observer of the 23-year-old.

“He’s a top player, really impressed me,” Bruce told Football Insider. “Aribo’s left-footed, he gives them nice balance in the team, keeps the ball moving from side to side when we played against them.

“They have a lot of possession in the Scottish league so it’s important you’ve got central midfielders who can handle the ball, keep it moving and obviously a lot of teams are looking to counter-attack against them because you tend to sit in deep against Celtic and
Rangers.

“It’s important you’ve got athleticism who can nullify counter-attacks and I think he can do it well.”

Aribo joined Rangers last summer on a free transfer from Charlton Athletic when they beat multiple clubs north and south of the border, as well as overseas, to his signature.

He has made 47 appearances in all competitions for the Light Blues this season, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have slashed the asking price of star man as overhaul gets underway.
