Bruno Fernandes is hurting Kobbie Mainoo and other Man United stars - pundit

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Is Man United captain Bruno Fernandes destroying talents like Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho?

Frank McAvennie has suggested Bruno Fernandes should be removed from the role of Man United captain instead of being handed a new deal.

The former Celtic, West Ham and Scotland striker claimed the "petulant" 29-year-old is not providing a good example for United's young talent.

It has been widely reported that Saudi Pro League sides, including Al-Hilal, are interested in signing Fernandes in the coming summer transfer window.

Fernandes succeeded Harry Maguire as captain of the Red Devils last summer (2023).

He has racked up nine goals and nine assists in 31 appearances across all competitions for Erik ten Hag's side this term.

However, the midfield star has been booked seven times in the Premier League already this season - the most of any United player.

McAvennie told Football Insider: “If he was in my team I’d have had him by the throat by now.

“I couldn’t put up with his petulance. He’s a disgrace, like a wee boy.

Honestly - he’s not a good example to the rest of the players in the dressing room.

“Some of these young players at Man United have so much talent - but they need to look up to somebody. Fernandes isn’t that man.

“Getting booked for arguing with referees or arguing with players… you’re the captain of Man United, set an example.

“I don’t think he should be in the role, personally.”
