Bruno Guimaraes helped keep Newcastle’s hopes of achieving Champions League football alive on Monday night as the Magpies defeated West Ham.

It was a tense game at the London Stadium, and Guimaraes’ 63rd-minute goal ended up not only breaking the deadlock but turned out to be the matchwinner.

Newcastle are now unbeaten in their last six away matches against West Ham, putting together an impressive record against the Hammers.

Graham Potter’s side did have the majority of the possession at 52 percent, but Newcastle were clinical as Guimaraes latched onto a Harvey Barnes cross.

The victory moved Newcastle into sixth place in the Premier League table as they continue to put pressure on those above them.

Eddie Howe’s side are currently level on points with Man City and sit just two points behind Chelsea in fourth, while they are only four adrift of Nottingham Forest in third as the race for Europe heats up.

He said, “Thank you, my God, for everything you do in my life…Thank you so much for allowing me to do what I love the most. I’m very happy to have scored a goal on my son’s birthday, something I really wanted. Pietro, you will always be the love of my life.

“An important victory to keep fighting for our goals. Thank you to all our fans for your support tonight! A very important week ahead. Happy to start off on the right foot.”

Newcastle will be without key players in the EFL Cup final

Newcastle now look ahead to one of the biggest games in the club’s history on Sunday (16 March) as they face Liverpool in the EFL Cup final.

The pressure on Guimaraes heading into Newcastle’s trip to Wembley Stadium on Sunday is going to be higher than usual too as the Magpies are missing two key players.

Anthony Gordon is suspended for the match after being sent off against Brighton in the FA Cup, while Newcastle are without Lewis Hall due to a foot injury which has ended his season.
