Leeds are close to making Werder Bremen goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald their second signing of the summer, according to a report.

The Yorkshire Evening Post claims that the 27-year-old will travel to England within the next 24 hours to complete a medical to "put the finishing touches" on a transfer believed to worth around £500,000.

Bundesliga ace Wiedwald is understood to have fell down the pecking order at the Weserstadion after Bremen announced that they were close to signing Slavia Prague shot-stopper Jiri Pavlenka.

The report says that Wiedwald held talks with the German club's hierarchy earlier this week, and they have since granted permission for him to find a new club, with him now expected to sign a three-year deal at Elland Road.

It is now said that Marco Silvestri could leave the Whites if the Wiedwald deal goes ahead as he is likely to fall further down the pecking order behind Rob Green and the German 'keeper.

Mateusz Klich became Thomas Christiansen's first signing as Leeds manager last week when they snapped him up from Dutch Eredivise side FC Twente.

Football Insider Verdict

£500,000 for an experienced, top-flight goalkeeper is certainly a good deal and at 27-years-of-age, Leeds have got themselves a potential No 1 for the next few seasons at least. Green has been terrific for the Whites, but he is now approaching the end of his career and a younger replacement has to come in. Wiedwald is not only a decade younger, but also has the understanding of playing in a big league with a club with a huge support base. The only question that now remains is about the future of Silvestri. There's no use in Christiansen keeping him around as Wiedwald and Green will certainly be the top choices next season.
