Burnley are ready to take advantage of Steve Clarke's availability by holding talks with him about becoming their new manager, Football Insider understands.

The Clarets are keen to step up in their search for Scott Parker's replacement after negotiations with Craig Bellamy appeared to collapse.

Sources understand that Burnley want to interview Clarke, 62, after he stepped down as Scotland manager following their 2026 World Cup exit.

Wales boss Craig Bellamy looked set to take the job earlier this month, but a move for the 46-year-old fell through due to a lack of agreement on his staff.

After being stuck in Group C with Brazil, Morocco and Haiti, the Tartan Army only picked up three points, being sent home before the knockout stages.

Clarke has a very limited experience when it comes to club football, having spent the last seven with the Scots, even signing a new contract until 2030.

Scotland bid farewell to Steve Clarke

Clarke created history when leading Scotland to qualification for the 2026 World Cup, providing fans with some unforgettable memories.

Supporters will absolutely never forget the Scot's defining 4-2 win over Denmark back in November, though this summer's tournament was certainly a swing and a miss.

The same can be said for Burnley's 2025-26 campaign, having finished 19th in the Premier League, just two points above Wolves.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mick Brown has already suggested that Clarke could return to club football, and signs are now pointing towards Turf Moor.

The Clarets are currently without a manager after Parker and the club mutually agreed to part ways in April, but expectations remain high ahead of next season.

Who else is in talks for the Burnley job?

Clarke is not the only candidate, even after Bellamy's move has collapsed, with several names in the hat for the Championship outfit.

Formerly of Nottingham Forest, Steve Cooper has been strongly linked with the job, as too have Rob Edwards and Brian Barry-Murphy.

The latter of those three names has been linked with several clubs this summer after Cardiff City's successful promotion season in League One.

It would appear that Clarke is now the favourite for Burnley, though, and now could be the perfect time to strike after his exit from Scotland.
