McAvennie: Rangers 'dont' have any money' amid 'alarming' claim
Rangers must invest in their defence during January after failing to keep another clean sheet.
That’s according to former Celtic hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Gers’ defensive struggles.
Rangers threw away three points against Hearts at the weekend, meaning they have only kept three clean sheets in the league this season.
This is a stark contrast to last season as the Gers broke a long-standing record by keeping seven straight clean sheets at the start of the campaign.
McAvennie insists Rangers need defenders but warned they don’t have any money to recruit.

“Listen, for various reasons, Rangers need new defenders in January,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Injuries, Goldson’s contract, whatever, they are conceding too many goals.
“The performances have not been as good as last season, which is fine, but they have dropped off to an alarming degree.
“We know Rangers didn’t spend any money this summer. I don’t think that was good business.
“I just don’t think they have any money. If they had made it into the Champions League then maybe I could see it.
“But they need some new faces in if they want to lock down that title. They are desperate for that.
“Just look at the record in Europe, it’s not good enough.”
Rangers have lost both of their Europa League matches this season ahead of Thursday’s clash against Brondby.
However, despite last week’s draw with Hearts, they remain top of the league.
