Pedro Caixinha is eyeing up a summer swoop for Gil Vicente’s Paulinho, according to a report.
Portguese news outlet A Bola reports that Caixinha is looking to use his links to Portugal to raid the second-tier club for the exciting 24-year-old attacker.
It is said that Paulinho would jump at the chance to move away from Gil Vicente should the opportunity arise.
Paulinho has been in top form in the second half of the season, netting 11 times in his last 13 appearances in the Ledman Liga Pro.
That takes his tally up to 14 for the campaign.
The one-time Portugal Under-21 international is an extremely versatile player and can play on both wings, as an attacking midfielder or as a striker.
He had spells at Santa Maria and Trofense before moving to Gil Vicente in 2013.
Caixinha will be looking for attacking reinforcements in the summer as he prepares to turn Rangers into Premiership challengers.
Gil Vicente do not look as though they will secure promotion to the top tier this season as they currently sit seventh in the standings – although they beat league leaders Portimonense in their last fixture.
Football Insider Verdict
This is one of the reasons why Caixinha was brought into Rangers – to attract quality players. He will be using his links to Portugal to uncover hidden gems, and judging by his stats and current run of form, Paulinho is a player that the Light Blues should really look at. He’s an interesting attacker who can play anywhere across a front three and with a lack of firepower at the club this season, he could lead the Rangers goal scoring in the near future. It’s going to be an extremely important transfer window for the Glasgow giants and Caixinha has to get his transfer dealings spot on. This one looks like it has legs.
