Newcastle United could sell Callum Wilson in January to facilitate a move for a new striker signing, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old has not played a game this season due to a back injury and is out of contract next summer.

Howe’s options have been stretched recently due to Wilson and Alexander Isak’s injuries, which is why the 46-year-old manager wants to bring in a new striker to enhance his options.

However, if Newcastle were able to sell Wilson, it could provide Howe with funds to sign a new striker.

Newcastle could cut their losses with Callum Wilson

Wilson has had consistent injury problems since signing for the Magpies, having missed 18 Premier League fixtures last season due to various issues.

Wilson is a proven Premier League forward, having scored 88 goals in 221 top-flight appearances throughout his career.

The experienced striker turns 33 in February, and his next move is likely to be the last big one of his career.

Newcastle have been relying on Anthony Gordon to play out of position as a striker recently due to the lack of options available.
