Liverpool should think twice before selling Mohamed Salah this summer, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said even Kylian Mbappe would struggle to replace the “unbelievable” 28-year-old next season.
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler surprisingly told the Mirror that the club should consider selling goal machine Salah this summer.
He claimed the funds raised from the Egyptian’s sale could be used to revamp Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
Salah has contributed a staggering 25 goals and four assists in 39 appearances this season, and he is the Premier League top scorer.
When asked by Football Insider if selling the winger was a risk worth taking for the Reds, Campbell said: “Who would you bring in if you sell Salah?
“It is so easy to say ‘sell Salah’.
“He is at the top of the goalscoring charts again – he has been unbelievable. Who comes in to replace his goals? Who could hit the ground running? Those players are few and far between in world football.
“Even if they went all out for Mbappe, there is no guarantee that he will hit the ground running. Werner was scoring goals for fun in Germany and look at him now. He is nowhere near as prolific.
“You have to tread carefully. If you sold Salah and didn’t replace the goals, Liverpool would not be the same team.”
Speaking on Salah’s future, Fowler said: “If Salah is upset he hasn’t been given a new contract, then cash in, get as much as you can for him and use the money to make tweaks with the current team.
“You would miss his goals, but is it possible to find someone better – not necessarily as a direct replacement, but in strengthening the team as a whole?”
