Campbell expects Arsenal to beat Celtic to 'great' Ryan signing after update

Arsenal “will go the extra mile” to beat Celtic to the signing of Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan.

That is the view of former Gunners and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the race to sign the 29-year-old this summer.

As revealed by Football Insider on (15 June), the Hoops have registered their interest in the Australia goalkeeper.

The Glasgow giants are preparing a contract package for Ryan but face stiff competition from Arsenal.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has worked with Ryan previously while manager of Australia.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Ryan would be a welcome addition at Parkhead, Campbell said: “No, no, no, he’s coming to Arsenal.

“Of course, he would be a great signing for Celtic because he is a quality, reliable goalkeeper.

“I think Arsenal seriously need him and will go the extra mile to get him.

“They need to keep him because he has proven he can do the business. Beggars cannot be choosers at Arsenal, let me tell you.

“Arsenal have struggled in that department for some time. Ryan is a player that they have to get this summer.”

Ryan spent the second half of the recently completed 2020-21 campaign on loan at the Emirates where he made three appearances.

He has made 124 Premier League appearances in his career and has one year left on his contract with Brighton.
