Campbell Exclusive: Bertrand would be top Arsenal signing after Mail update
Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand would be a “very good signing” for Arsenal on deadline day, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 31-year-old “fits the bill” given that he is “vastly experienced” in the Premier League.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta does not currently have a fit recognised left-back at his disposal, with Kieran Tierney injured and Sead Kolasinac having left on loan this month.
The Daily Mail report that the London club are interested in a deadline day swoop for Southampton full-back Ryan Bertrand, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles potentially heading in the opposite direction on loan.
Bertrand has entered the final six months of his contract at St. Mary’s and could be available for a reduced fee.
Asked if he would welcome the arrival of the England international, Campbell told Football Insider: “I think he would be a very good signing.

“He is vastly experienced, a good player and could provide Mikel Arteta with a short-term fix.
“Why not? He can deputise or interchange with Kieran Tierney and that would be good for the football club.
“You need experience in there and he knows the league very well. He fits the bill.”
Bertrand would become Arsenal’s third signing of the January window following the arrival of Martin Odegaard and Mat Ryan, on loan from Real Madrid and Brighton respectively.
The Gunners are 10th in the Premier League after a 0-0 draw with Manchester United over the weekend.
