Campbell: Forget White, this is the 'shambolic' Arsenal star who's really to blame
Kevin Campbell has defended Ben White and insisted Pablo Mari was more to blame as Arsenal began their season with a 2-0 loss to Brentford.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Gunners striker insisted the Gunners got “bullied” in west London and White needs more help at the back.
Newly promoted Brentford scored either side of half-time to win their first top-flight game in over 70 years.
£50million summer signing White drew criticism from Arsenal fans as their defensive problems continued.
However, Campbell has insisted it is those around the England international that deserve more criticism.
He told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild: “It’s not good.

“The performance, they weren’t up for the battle and Brentford bullied the team. I think the average age of the team was 22, 23 but realistically Arsenal got bullied.
“The second goal summed it up. Shambolic. If you saw that on Hackney marshes you would maybe accept it. But to see it in the Premier League, you can’t handle a long throw-in? Come on, it’s crazy.
“I don’t think Ben White had a particularly great game but I thought Pablo Mari was terrible beside him.
“If you have a partner like Pablo Mari who’s the bigger of the two, the more aggressive of the two, you need a partner who can help you. I thought Pablo Mari was all over the place.
“Ben White needed a bit of help from people around him but he couldn’t get it.”
