Campbell fumes after potentially 'detrimental' Arsenal footage emerges

Kevin Campbell has slammed referee Michael Oliver after Arsenal beat Leicester City on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker is adamant Jonny Evans should have been sent off for his challenge on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, Oliver and VAR official Jarred Gillet did not adjudge the Foxes defender to be denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

The Gunners went on to win 2-0 at the King Power Stadium thanks to goals from Gabriel Magalhaes and Emile Smith Rowe.

Campbell is relieved that the decision did not have a “detrimental” impact on Mikel Arteta’s side.

“Look, I am not one for getting players sent off but I’m sorry, that is a sending off,” he told Football Insider.

“The same thing happened at Man City and the player got sent off. It was the exact same thing. You have to have consistency.

“I don’t want to get too deep into the standard of refereeing but that is a red card all day long. He is denying a goalscoring opportunity. It was a joke.

“The referee didn’t do his job. I’m just happy it didn’t effect the outcome of the game. That decision could have been detrimental to Arsenal.”

Arsenal are now unbeaten in their last seven Premier League fixtures.

The London club have climbed up to sixth in the table ahead of the visit of Watford on Sunday.
