Campbell: 'I hear' from sources Newcastle are going to sign Ajer from Celtic
Kevin Campbell is adamant Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer will sign for Newcastle United this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker claimed the lure of the Magpies and the Premier League will be too much for the 23-year-old to resist.
As quoted by Sky Sports, Ajer said at a Norwegian press conference last week that “something might possibly happen this summer” regarding his future.
The Daily Mail reported on 22 May that Newcastle hope to bolster their defensive ranks with an £8million move for the Norwegian centre-half.
Ajer is available for knockdown fee this summer with just 12 months left on his contract at Parkhead.
When asked by Football Insider if Ajer’s move to St. James’ Park was looking increasingly likely, the well-connected Campbell said: “That is going to happen.

“The lure of Newcastle, who are a big club, is going to be a bit too strong I think. Ajer, like the majority of players out there, wants to play in the Premier League. It is a big draw.
“I am pretty sure that one is going to happen. From what I hear from people in the game, he has made his intentions quite clear.”
Speaking at a press conference last week, Ajer said: “There are of course a lot of rumours, but as of right now there are only rumours.
“I have one year left of the contract and that is what I am focused on, but of course, something might possibly happen this summer.”
