Campbell issues emphatic Maeda claim after what he's seen at Celtic

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on new signing Daizen Maeda after he starred on his Celtic debut.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton forward said the 24-year-old will quickly win over the Parkhead faithful if he continues to “press well from the front.”

Maeda scored just four minutes into his Hoops debut as Ange Postecoglou’s side closed the gap on league leaders Rangers with a 2-0 win over Hibs.

As quoted by the Daily Record (19 January), the Japanese striker revealed he was “nervous” as there is “big expectation” on his shoulders.

The Hoops confirmed the 1 January arrival of Maeda on an initial loan deal with a compulsory purchase clause included in the agreement.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the striker’s debut, Campbell said:

“You love to see somebody hungry and Maeda pressed well from the front. The fans will love it if he continues in that vein.

“To score his first goal for Celtic, at Celtic Park, it is great. He looks like another brilliant signing.

“You have got to give Postecoglou a lot of credit. He has done his homework on the players he’s bringing in. They are going to make the team and the squad better. Fair play to him.

“They need to make an assault on that league now. They have got to unseat Rangers. It looks like they have a squad capable of doing that now. There should be no holding back.”
