Ben White has all of the attributes to succeed as a right-back for Arsenal but should predominantly be used as a centre-half.

That is the view of former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Football.London's suggestion that the 23-year-old could be utilised as a right-back by Mikel Arteta next season.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein (June 24th), Arsenal are close to agreeing a £50million-plus deal to sign White from Brighton.

The parties have held face-to-face talks and it is said that their relations are very strong.

The England international is primarily a centre-half but can also play as a holding midfielder and a right-back.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on White replacing Hector Bellerin at right-back, Campbell said: "It's interesting to hear.

"Maybe he is seen as a dual player by Mikel Arteta. His versatility is certainly a big asset.

"Listen, I think he can play in that position and he might need to because it is a position where we struggled last season.

"White is a good carrier of the ball, he's athletic, he's a good passer and he can defend. He has all of the attributes to do well at right-back really.

"I would rather see him play at centre-half though, if you are spending all that money on him. I understand why he might be used there at times though."
