Campbell thrilled as Arsenal to bin dressing-room troublemaker Xhaka in next 48 hours
Kevin Campbell is adamant it would be in the best interests of Arsenal if Granit Xhaka left to join AS Roma.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker claimed the 28-year-old “wields too much power” in the dressing room for a player who “has not achieved much” during his time at the Emirates.
The Standard claimed yesterday (8 June) that Roma are trying to tie up a deal for the Switzerland international and Football Insider has learned from an industry source there is hope a deal can be done by Friday.
It is said the Italian club, now managed by Jose Mourinho, hope to secure the centre-midfielder’s services for £15million with the Gunners wanting closer to £20million.
Xhaka has two years remaining on his contract at the Emirates.
When asked if Xhaka would leave a whole in Arsenal’s dressing room, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “I think the team needs a different identity.

“How much influence does Xhaka have on that dressing room?
“Let’s be honest, he is not the greatest player. People look up to him in the dressing room and I’m not sure why. Is it because of his leadership or it is just because he is one of the most senior players?
“He has not achieved much in his five years a the club. A player that has not been a standout but wields a lot of power.
“I think this is a good thing that he is moving on, I really do. There needs to be a shift in the dressing room. Arteta needs better players in that midfield.”
