Rangers will “100 per cent” offer James Tavernier a blockbuster new contract to fend off rival clubs.
That is according to ex-Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, who’s son Tyrese was the subject of strong Ibrox interest earlier this year.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the well-connected former Premier League man is in no doubt Rangers have to reward the club captain spearheading their 55th league title pursuit.
Rangers are having an extraordinary, 25-match unbeaten campaign and Tavernier has been their outstanding player.
Football Insider revealed earlier this week the Light Blues are braced for bids from Premier League sides ahead of the January transfer window after the right-back’s sensational form at both ends of the pitch.
Tavernier’s current contract expires in the summer of 2022.
“100 per cent I could see the club offering Tavernier a new deal,” Campbell told Football Insider.
“When a player is playing that well you have to reward him with a good deal. I am sure Steven Gerrard will want to keep hold of him and the club will know that.”
Rangers have conceded just three goals in their 16 league games, in which Tavernier has played all but four minutes.
If that was not remarkable enough, the right-back has been the team’s most effective attacking player, scoring 16 goals and supplying 11 assists from 25 games in all competitions.
The skipper has started every match played by Gerrard’s side this season and completed 22 of them as well.
