Carragher: This Liverpool duo need to be tougher, 31-year-old should be on the bench
By Will Butcher
Jamie Carragher has called on centre-backs Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren to be tougher following Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth.
Ragnar Klavan started alongside Lovren during the draw, as Liverpool conceded another two goals at Anfield with Norway international Josh King salvaging a late point in the 87th minute.
Posting on his personal Twitter account, Reds legend Carragher claimed 31-year-old Klavan should not be playing as much as Lovren and Matip are the Reds’ first choice centre-backs.
Carragher, who is Liverpool’s second highest appearance maker with 737 outings to his name, claimed Lovren and Matip are “always missing games” and “need to be tougher”.
Problem for @Lfc is Lovren & Matip always missing games, need to be tougher. 3rd choice Klavan then has to play more & eventually it shows.

The duo have been regularly in out of the side this season, as Cameroon defender Matip continues his struggles.
The former Schalke defender started on the bench before coming on as a substitute against Eddie Howe’s Cherries on Wednesday night because of a back problem.
Croatia international Lovren has also failed to consistently maintain his fitness this term, with multiple injuries forcing him to watch from the sidelines.
The Reds were 1-0 behind within 10 minutes at Anfield, as Benik Afobe struck before goals from Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi saw Liverpool take a 2-1 lead.
However, King stepped up with three minutes remaining to score an equaliser that puts a dent in Liverpool’s top four hopes.
