Tom Rogic has reportedly rejected a new contract offer from Celtic but has broken his silence on his plans by revealing he loves being at the club and is in the right place to improve.
The Daily Record claim that the attacking midfielder, 25, is in a contract stalemate with Hoops chiefs after opening negotiations on a new deal.
Rogic has a deal with the Scottish champions that runs until the summer of 2019 and his future is shrouded in doubt ahead of this summer’s World Cup, where he is set to represent Australia.
But Rogic has offered hope to those keen for him to stay by explaining how he believes he can improve at Parkhead.
He said, as quoted by the Record: “Celtic the club is enormous. There is obviously a large history and anytime there is a match or anytime you pull on that jersey, you have a responsibility.
“It’s an atmosphere that is right up there with the very best in the world. It seems like a long time ago since I signed and it seems like I’ve been here forever, but I wouldn’t change anything.
“For me at the moment, it’s just about improving and working hard every day. Not getting complacent and striving to become better.
“I think that in this environment, the squad is very much driven in that way and we’re certainly heading in the right direction.”
The Daily Star report that Rogic earns £15,000-a-week at Celtic.
Football Insider verdict:
A cursory glance at social media, practically any day, tells you how much Celtic fans want the ‘Magic Man’, as Brendan Rodgers calls him, to stay. Rogic has struggled with injuries this season but had demonstrated his calibre with key goals at important times, including in the last two Old Firm showdowns. His goalscoring knack, quick feet, excellent technique and ability to carry the ball forward make the Aussie one of the outstanding talents in the Hoops squad. Little wonder the fans are desperate for him to remain a Bhoy beyond next season.
