Celtic accelerate plans to sign midfielder as new offer submitted

Silas Andersen will not come cheap for Celtic this summer as they plot a midfield overhaul under their new manager ahead of next season.

Celtic remain interested in BK Hacken star Andersen after seeing a move for his services turned down in the January transfer window.

They are facing competition to sign him from Rangers and Sporting CP, with the former now believed to be advancing in transfer talks.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Celtic still want to seal a move for Andersen, but know they will have to stump up a big fee in the coming weeks to get it over the line.

Celtic’s transfer plans have been boosted by their qualification to the Champions League play-offs, with extra revenue set to be used on new signings for their next boss.

Celtic will be forced to spend big to land Silas Andersen

Football Insider previously revealed that Champions League qualification would dictate Andersen’s choice between Celtic and Rangers this summer.

Celtic have emerged on top in the race for the Premiership and the UCL, but still could miss out on the 21-year-old midfielder behind Sporting CP.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Rangers were among the clubs looking at him (Andersen). You’ve also got interest in Germany as well, from Koln, and also from Sporting Lisbon.

“He’s a defensive midfielder and midfield is going to be one of the areas of the team that Celtic are definitely going to have to strengthen in for next season as well.

“It won’t be an easy deal to do and it definitely won’t be a cheap one to do either.”

Celtic to hold Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain contract talks this summer

Celtic might be planning a midfield overhaul this summer, but Oxlade-Chamberlain could be set to extend his stay at Parkhead after joining in February.

The former Liverpool star signed a short-term contract after being a free agent, and the Hoops do have the option to extend his deal by another year.

He scored a vital winner against Livingston on his Celtic debut, but only managed to make five league starts for the club and did not feature in any of their last four Premiership games.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Celtic will hold talks with Oxlade-Chamberlain about the future and his contract situation, but all signs point to him staying for at least another season.
