Kenny predicts Postecoglou to snub McGregor and swoop for 'perfect' new Celtic captain

Ange Postecoglou could sign a new captain for Celtic this summer rather than hand the armband to Callum McGregor.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hoops’ summer transfer plans.

McGregor, 28, was Scott Brown‘s deputy last season and is widely expected to take over following the 36-year-old’s departure to Aberdeen.

Celtic are currently away on a training camp in Wales under the supervision of newly-appointed boss Postecoglou.

They completed their first signings of the summer as Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide arrived from Sheffield Wednesday last week.

Kenny claims that Postecoglou could be set to explore the transfer market further in search of a new Parkhead skipper.

“It depends who he’s got his eye on bringing in,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“You never know, he might sign someone who he wants to bring in as captain.

“I’ve been in squads where the captaincy wasn’t decided until the last week before the season started. So I have seen it left late.

“It wouldn’t be a massive issue for me as a player as long as it’s sorted before the season gets underway.

“But he might be looking at bringing someone in with the perfect attributes who he thinks can be a good captain for Celtic.”

McGregor, a one-club man, graduated from Celtic’s academy in 2013.

He has gone on to win 14 titles and make 325 appearances for the club in all competitions.
