Celtic are convinced they have signed a "diamond" in new arrival Maryan Shved who can be a mega-money asset in the future, Football Insider understands.

The winger, 21, was given a lukewarm review by ex-manager Brendan Rodgers when he was signed for £2 million in January, before being loaned straight back to Ukrainian outfit Karpaty Lviv.

Shved spent time at Lennoxtown last month to pose for pictures with his new club ahead of slotting into Neil Lennon's first-team squad for next season.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider the club are really excited about the potential of Shved and believe he is a "diamond" whose value can skyrocket if he makes the impact in Scotland they expect him to.

Capped once by the Ukraine national side, Shved scored 15 goals in 26 matches last season and Hoops fans have responded excitedly to highlights reels of his goals and matchwinning performances posted on social media.

A right winger who cuts in from the flank on to his favoured left foot, Celtic's plan for him is to be deployed in a similar way as Patrick Roberts was during his lengthy spell on loan from Manchester City.

Ukraine manager Andriy Shevchenko is in no doubt about the ability of the rising star and claimed he is motivated to shine in Scotland and will also "go on to be a big player for Ukraine".
