Kieran Maguire: Celtic primed to make move for 'transfer target A' after development tonight

Celtic will be ready to move for their top transfer targets after qualifying for the Europa League group stage this evening.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider following Celtic’s qualifier win against AZ Alkmaar.

The Hoops survived a torrid night in the Netherlands to edge past AZ Alkmaar on aggregate and reach the Europa League groups for the fourth season running.

The Daily Record reported on 22 August that manager Ange Postecoglou wants to sign another defender, midfielder and striker this summer.

And Maguire claims that the Hoops’ ability to acquire their top targets has been handed a huge boost after tonight.

“I think they have more than one budget,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“Like all clubs, they will have transfer target A for defender, midfielder and striker. They will also have target B for players in the same position.

“They will be linked to the amounts that they are prepared to pay. If we look at Celtic’s business model, costs have always been driven by revenue.

“So if revenue is going to take a hit, then they might be fishing in a slightly different pool if they don’t qualify for the Europa League.”

Celtic finished bottom of their Europa League group last year after one win from six matches.

They were knocked out by FC Midtjylland in the preliminary stages of this season’s Champions League.
