Celtic could sign next Reo Hatate this summer after confirmed news - pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Celtic could sign another midfielder in the mould of Reo Hatate this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland international claimed Ange Postecoglou would want someone who “can do a little bit of everything” in the middle of the park.

As quoted by the Daily Record (14 May), Postecoglou revealed Celtic “need to sign” a new midfielder this summer with Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic both leaving Parkhead.

He suggested the Bhoys would look at strengthening their starting XI rather than bolstering the squad.

Hutton admitted the type of midfielder signed would depend on how Postecoglou plans to play next season.

However, he suggested an all-rounder like Hatate, 24, could fit the bill for the Aussie boss.

Asked what type of midfielder Celtic need to sign, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It depends how they play. They like to play with the one sitter and McGregor can play there. He can get forward.

“Turnbull’s more of an attacking midfielder, O’Riley is more of the flair guy. He has done ever so well.

Then they have got Hatate who runs everywhere, he covers every blade of grass. He’s a different type of player who’s energetic and can get about the pitch. Everybody wants a midfielder who can do a little bit of everything.

“I definitely think there’s a place there for somebody to come in, a different profile of player from the rest of the midfield.”

Hatate has played 21 times and scored four goals since joining from Kawasaki Frontale in January.

As well as those mentioned by Hutton, the Bhoys also have Yosuke Ideguchi and James McCarthy to call on in central midfield.
