Celtic are interested in singing Swansea attacker Jordan Ayew, according to a report.
The Daily Record claims the Hoops are ‘serious’ about signing the 26-year-old, according to Berekum Chelsea director of football Nana Oduro Sarfo, who is a friend of the Ghanaian international.
Safro spoke to Ghanaian radio station Onua FM, and disclosed that although Liverpool were interested in the player Brendan Rodgers has been far more concrete with his interest.
“Jordan has had offers from several clubs after Swansea City‘s relegation last season. He will surely not play in the Championship with them,” he said.
“Liverpool have shown interest in him but Scottish side Celtic and their coach seem to be serious with their interest.
“I believe he may go to Scotland looking at how events are unfolding since they want to meet every demand.”
Ayew scored 11 goals in 44 appearances for the Swans last season, but was unable to stop them from being relegated back to the Championship.
Football Insider verdict
This is a very intriguing story if true, as it seems to suggest that the Hoops could be bringing in two new strikers in the summer. Not only Ayew, but also the permanent signing of Odsonne Edouard, who spent last season on loan with the Bhoys from PSG. That would have to cast doubt on the future of Moussa Dembele, who has been subject to plenty of speculation in the last year. As for Ayew, he is a good player, but it is unlikely the Hoops would spend huge money on him. Perhaps Swansea are going to have a fire sale after relegation. If that is the case, if the Hoops can pick up the player for around £2-3million, it would be a good bit of business. Any more money on that on a player who has been recently relegated, even from the Premier League, would be too expensive. Only time will tell though and if the player does sign he would no doubt be a threat for the Hoops, particularly in Europe.
