Celtic deploy scouts to crucial international fixture, Euro giants also in attendance - report
By Danny Wright
Celtic deployed their scouts to cast their rule over Austria’s World Cup qualifying win against Serbia on Friday night, according to a report.
Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung claimed on their website that a host of clubs had sent their recruitment experts to the Group D clash, including European giants Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid.
It is also understood that Manchester United, Aston Villa, Wolves and Newcastle were among the other British representatives at the Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna as Austria won 3-2 against group leaders Serbia.
Celtic’s scouts would have seen Guido Burgstaller, Marko Arnautovic and Louis Schaub score for the home side while Luka Milivojevic and Nemanja Matic netted for the Serbs.
It is not clear who the Scottish Premiership champions were keeping there eye on, but with Brendan Rodgers currently suffering a defensive injury crisis with Mikael Lustig and Jozo Simunovic picking up fresh setbacks, it would be fair to assume he had someone to cast the rule over defenders in the clash.

Austria’s win against Serbia was extremely crucial to who will qualify for next summer’s World Cup from Group D.
The Serbs could have secured automatic qualification but now Wales and the Republic of Ireland have the chance at beating them to the top of the pile.
Football Insider Verdict
It already seems a long time ago since the transfer window slammed shut at the end of August when Rodgers failed to reinforce his defensive options. Before we know it, January will be here and the Parkhead boss will have to bring in a new centre-back. Rivaldo Coetzee would have been the man that came in if he didn’t fail his medical and things would perhaps have been slightly better for the Bhoys should that deal have gone through. Austria and Serbia have some good players on offer and some of them may fit the Celtic system quite well. However with both sides conceding goals, it’s unlikely the scouts would have been overly impressed with what was on show.
