Celtic have recent history when it comes to spending big on wages - and Joe Hart's pay packet could cause some unrest at the club.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Celtic announced the signing of Hart on 3rd August.

That would make the goalkeeper the club's best-paid player in a top bracket also containing Callum McGregor and Christopher Julien.

Maguire revealed that the latest financial data shows that Celtic have spent £370million in wages in the past eight years.

And the finance expert claimed that Hart's salary could raise eyebrows at Parkhead.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: "Since 2013, Celtic have paid out £370m in wages compared to Rangers' £178m.

"Over the last four years, they have spent over £1m-a-week in wages.

"With the likes of Scott Brown and some others leaving, I think that wage bill will come down a bit, especially with the lack of Champions League.

"If Joe Hart is their highest-paid member of staff, I could imagine that might cause some dissatisfaction at the club.

"He's a player who has been a bench-warmer in England for the last few years."

Hart made his Celtic debut in the 4-2 Europa League third round qualifier win against FK Jablonec on 5th August.

He could make his second appearance in today's Scottish Premiership clash with Dundee.
