Celtic dressing room handed 'big boost' after confirmed Rangers manager news

Steven Gerrard’s departure from Rangers will hand the Celtic dressing room a “big boost”, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted the “pressure is on” whoever the new Rangers boss is as soon as he is appointed.

They will inherit a side four points clear of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Steven Gerrard quit the club to take over at Premier League side Aston Villa.

The Gers confirmed on Monday (November 15) David McCallum, Brian Gilmour, Jermain Defoe and Colin Stewart are in charge of the team as they hunt for a new manager.

As quoted by Sky Sports (November 11), Ange Postecoglou insisted he was not thinking about Celtic’s neighbours and instead he was “laser-focused” on his own side.

“I think it’s a big boost for Celtic,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“When someone’s stopped 10-in-a-row and got a team top of the league at the moment and he leaves, it’s got to be a boost.

“The new manager comes in then he’s under pressure straight away at Rangers.

“They’ve got a tough game in the Scottish League Cup and if they get a wobbly result under a new manager, or the new manager isn’t appointed by then, the pressure is on.

“I think it’s a boost for the Celtic dressing room. Just like when Brendan Rodgers left Celtic, it was a boost for Rangers.”

Rangers face Hibs in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park at the weekend.

Celtic play holders St Johnstone at the same venue and the Old Firm rivals could meet in the final next month.

In other news, Celtic could lose up to £9m on a senior duo as they are told to sell ‘at any price’.
