Whelan: Celtic have 'dressing room' issue after yet another Barkas 'blunder'
There is a lack of trust in Vasilis Barkas in the Celtic dressing room and that is a “massive worry” as they get their 2021-22 campaign underway.
So say ex-Scottish Premiership forward Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hoops goalkeeper’s recent performances.
The 27-year-old, who signed from AEK Athens for £4.5million last summer, was at fault for goals against FC Midtjylland and West Ham.
The West Ham clash was a friendly but Barkas’ error in the Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland could have costly repercussions.
The second leg of that tie takes place on Wednesday (28th July) and Whelan observes that the Greece international looks totally bereft of confidence. heading into it.
“It’s a massive worry,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“His positioning for most of the goals, he was so out of place. He left the goal wide open. That is something they need to correct very, very quickly.
“That dressing room needs someone they can trust at the back, and I don’t trust him from the goals he’s been giving away. They were blunders.
“I’m not a goalkeeper but I looked at some of his positioning for some of the goals and he’s covering nothing.
“He’s showing both sides, near post and far post. They didn’t need to do much to score the goals.
“After the blunder in the Champions League as well, he looks like a keeper lacking in confidence. That’s not good with the Premiership on the horizon.“
