Celtic’s deadline day signing Jack Hendry has admitted that he had interest from clubs down South but instead preferred a move to the Scottish champions.
In fact, the 22-year-old went as far to say that once he knew of the Hoops desire to sign him, there was only ever one place he wanted to go.
As quoted by the Daily Record, the defender said: “There was a lot of interest from down south.
“But there was only one place I wanted to come and that was Celtic.”
There were rumours of a move down to the Premier League with Hendry being watched by a host of sides in the English top-flight including Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and Newcastle United.
Old Firm rivals Rangers were also targeting the highly-regarded right-back and were linked with a late swoop on the defender but it came to naught.
Hendry made his debut for his new club last weekend in the defeat at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock in an injury-ridden defence and could also be handed his European debut in the Europa League against Zenit St Petersburg next week.
With Dedryck Boyata the latest name to join the injury list after Saturday’s away loss, Hendry’s inclusion might be necessary.
