Celtic star defender Jozo Simunovic is on Lazio’s transfer wish list, as their centre-half Stefan De Vrij is close to leaving the Italian team, according to a report.
Corriere dello Sport report that Lazio have ear-marked the Croatian as a potential replacement, should De Vrij leave when his contract runs out in the summer.
Simunovic, who has impressed since his move to Celtic Park in 2015, has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including Burnley and Crystal Palace.
The £8million rated centre-half has played for Celtic 19 times this season, although he has not featured for Brendon Rodger’s men since the devastating 4-0 loss to Hearts.
However, the 23-year-old’s Celtic future has been cast in shadow due to the emergence of Kristoffer Ajer, playing in Simunovic’s absence – and he has looked solid in recent games.
Football Insider verdict:
The young Croatian had looked promising at the Start of his Celtic career, however the horror show game in which Celtic lost their unbeaten streak against Hearts seems to have doomed Simunovic. The 23-year-old joined Celtic from Dynamo Zagreb, and settled in to life in the Scottish Premier League well – it is likely he would enjoy similar success in Italy. Simunovic has represented his country at many junior levels, starting out as a fresh faced teenager in the Croatian Under 14s team. Fans seem to have already forgotten about the defender, as a poll conducted by The Daily Record suggests that over 75% want to see Simunovic leave Celtic Park.
In other Celtic transfer news, Brendon Rodgers is concerned about this player, following huge Premier League interest.
