Celtic face a massive battle to keep hold of Kieran Tierney this summer with Atletico Madrid set to jet into Scotland to watch the left-back in the Scottish Cup final, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun states that the second-placed La Liga side, who sit second in Spain’s top flight, will compete with a host of clubs for the player’s signature, including the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham and Bournemouth, should the 20-year-old become available.
Celtic reportedly rate the defender at £20million and should a deal materialise it will blow the previous record sale of Virgil van Dijk to Southampton for £13m in 2015 out of the water.
Tierney signed a new contract at Parkhead last October until 2023.
Football Insider verdict:
There has always been a lot of interest in Tierney who blew the world away when he emerged into the Hoops’ starting line-up. His exciting runs and assists down the left-flank have become integral to the way the team plays as a whole and they would be far worse off without him. While he only put pen to paper on a new deal late last year we all know that in football, money talks and if the fee is right then Celtic will not be able to turn down the advances of what would be a massive financial gain. Tierney has not managed to replicate the form that earned rave reviews from onlookers last season and has dropped down in the pecking order for the national side behind Andy Robertson. However, he remains a consistent performer and being Celtic through and through, there will be few who can imagine the youngster spitting his dummy out in order to push through a transfer – and they will reckon that the Hoops could and should get more for their prize possession by holding out.
