Celtic facing 'absolute disaster' after Kyogo injury update - pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Celtic face an “absolute disaster” if Kyogo Furuhashi is ruled out of the Scottish League Cup final against Hibernian.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Ange Postecoglou should have protected his star forward instead of playing him in a dead rubber against Real Betis on Thursday (9 December).

As quoted by Sky Sports on Friday (10 December), Postecoglou admitted the Bhoys face a nervy wait as the striker’s hamstring injury is assessed.

The forward limped off late on against Betis on Thursday.

Postecoglou has already confirmed Jota will be out for the Scottish League Cup final (19 December).

Whelan insisted Furuhashi’s injury could be another “massive” blow.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You can see what Postecoglou is trying to do. He’s trying to respect every game that is put in front of him.

“But at the same time, you’re looking at something bigger than that game on Thursday night. You’re looking at a cup final.

“The first piece of silverware you can win in the season, especially when he’s only just come into the job.

“You’ve now got two massive players potentially out for such an important cup final that’s coming up.

“Positive on the winning side, but an absolute disaster on the injury front with that kind of player that’s so important to the team.”

Furuhashi, 26, has scored 14 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions for Celtic this season.

David Turnbull is the Hoops’ second top scorer with nine, while Jota is third with eight.
