Patrick Roberts can see similarities between Brendan Rodgers and Pep Guardiola

Patrick Roberts was used as a second-half substitute on Tuesday night – and Celtic fans were pleased with his contribution from the bench.

Celtic earned a 1-1 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League, but still face an uphill battle to remain in Europe.

Lars Stindl scored the opener in the first-half for the host after converting a cross from Thorgan Hazard, but Moussa Dembele earned a point by converting a penalty after the break.

Roberts, 19, played a major role in Celtic’s goal by sliding through Dembele before he was fouled in the box.

The result leaves the Bhoys bottom of their European group and will need at least one win against Barcelona or Manchester City in their remaining games to stay in Europe.

Brendan Rodgers’ side may now be targeting an unlikely third-placed finish in the group, which would drop them down into the Europa League.

Celtic fans were thrilled with the impact of Roberts and believe he warrants a starting position in their next game.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Roberts is currently on a 18-month loan from Manchester City since joining in February and has made 29 appearances in all competitions.

The English winger has made 16 appearances this season under Brendan Rodgers, scoring two goals and supplying five assists.

The Bhoys host Inverness on Saturday in their next match and Roberts could be in contention for a start in the league game.

In the latest Celtic team news, Chris Sutton has delivered a Twitter verdict on the club’s midfield duo.
