Celtic fans should be getting excited about Giakoumakis after what I've just seen - Phillips
Kevin Phillips has told Celtic fans to get excited after the club signed VVV Venlo striker Giorgos Giakoumakis.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted after the Hoops secured their 10th summer signing.
Giakoumakis was announced as a Celtic player on deadline day, replacing Odsonne Edouard, who signed for Crystal Palace.
It is understood Celtic paid £2.5millon to lure Giakoumakis from VVV-Venlo.
Last season he bagged an impressive 26 goals in 30 outings in the Eredivisie.
Phillips insists the forward’s record is nothing to be sniffed at but suggested he may struggle to find the net in the Old Firm games.

“I think they should be excited,” Phillips told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.
“I say it every week and again, this is no disrespect to the Scottish league, the Dutch league is probably on a par with it.
“Then you are coming into a club where they create opportunities left right and centre.
“They can score goals. If I’m a Celtic fan, I’m excited. You look at his record and see he can score goals.
“Those games against Rangers will be a struggle but the rest of the games we can do well.
“I would be excited.”
Celtic ended up with 12 new players as Ange Postecoglou addressed claims that the squad was due an overhaul.
Several other big name players also left Parkhead along with Edouard, chief among them Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie.
