Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to slam Dedryck Boyata for his shaky performance against Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup final at Hampden Park on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers managed to mastermind the Hoops to a 2-0 with against Stephen Robinson’s side thanks to second half strikes from James Forest and star striker Moussa Dembele from the penalty spot.

It was a fairly tense opening 45 minutes with Motherwell looking as though they were able to cause problems to the Bhoys rearguard that had not long come off the back of a 7-1 mauling to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Many of the Hoops fans pointed out Boyata, 26, as the key underperformer in the squad, and took to Twitter to make their feelings clear about the Belgian centre-back.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Boyata has been ever-present for Celtic since returning from a knee injury in September but has had to deal with different partners at centre-back due to a lack of options at Parkhead.

The ex-Manchester City defender has made 14 appearances across all competitions and is likely to continue in the backline for the forseeable future with Erik Sviatchenko still out on the sidelines.

Next up for Celtic is a return to Scottish Premiership action against Motherwell as they continue with their triple-header against the Steelmen at Parkhead on Wednesday night.

In other Celtic news, ex-Hoops manager Neil Lennon has taken a brutal swipe at Rangers for their manager search.
