'Rotten', 'Can leave anytime' - Celtic fans tear mainstay to shreds for performance v Partick
Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to tear Dedryck Boyata to shreds for his performance in the 2-1 win against Partick at Firhill Stadium on Wednesday night.
Boyata, 27, has been at the centre of a lot of criticism this season, but did little to alleviate that against the Jags with a truly lacklustre performance.
Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that he would try to strengthen his defence in the January transfer window, but so far, only Marvin Compper has been signed up from RB Leipzig and frustratingly the one-time Germany international has since picked up an injury.
Boyata was picked to start in the back four alongside youngster Kristoffer Ajer, who himself had a poor outing against Partick.
But it was the senior Belgian player who bore the brunt of criticism on Twitter, with one fan saying that he “can leave anytime”.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Is it only me who suffers a mini heart attack everytime Boyata has the ball within a 15 foot radius of himself ????????

It's actually unreal how uneasy I become when Boyata is on the ball ????????????

I would rather see an injured commper make his debut than boyata

Slow, deliberate, clueless up front, poor in midfield, scary at the back. This is Celtic.
Forwards need to create space and move about not stand around like statues.
BIG changes needed all round.
Lustig and Boyata can leave anytime imo

Pretty much the same defence as last year.
Boyata for me is rotten.
Would prefer Simunovic myself & Ajer for the time being

Time to stop giving bang average players like Lustig, Boyata and McGregor songs

We’ve been so slow and predictable in possession in defence and midfield. Boyata is a dumplin in possession. Ajer not much better tonight. Mid three ponderous.

Boyata has been a mainstay of Celtic’s first-team this season despite his poor form.
However with Erik Sviatchenko now gone and Jozo Simunovic widely reported to be on the radar of other teams, Rodgers may have had little choice but to start Boyata and Ajer as his central defensive pairing.
Boyata has made 23 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals in the process.
In other Celtic news, this club’s president has jetted into the UK in order to try and offload this defensive warrior to the Hoops.
