Celtic fear they may be 'gazumped' on Jota and Carter-Vickers deals after source's reveal today - pundit

Celtic are worried Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers may have their heads turned and join a rival club in the summer, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England defender claimed they are also worried about being “gazumped”.

A Celtic source told Football Insider today that Celtic are closing in on the permanent signings of Jota, 22, and Carter-Vickers, 24, after talks this week with Benfica and Tottenham.

Both are in the middle of season-long loan deals with the Hoops and have played a key role under Ange Postecoglou.

Carter-Vickers has played 23 times at the heart of the defence that has kept 14 clean sheets across all competitions.

Jota scored eight times and provided six assists in 18 games before picking up a hamstring injury at the beginning of December.

“They will be concerned that other clubs will be sniffing around them in the summer,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Before there’s too much interest, they think ‘Can we get them before somebody else comes in and somebody else turns their head?’

“It’s one they will want to get done quickly so the players are signed up before they get gazumped and someone steals them from under their noses.”

Jota is a product of the Benfica academy but has also enjoyed a loan spell with Spanish club Real Valladolid CF.

USA international Carter-Vickers came through the Spurs academy but has played over 100 times in the English Championship across various loan spells.
