Celtic forwards to explode under Harry Kewell after Sky reveal - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted the Celtic wingers will reach new heights under the coaching of Harry Kewell.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted it is important for clubs to have coaches who have played at the highest level.

Sky Sports reported last week (10 June) that Kewell is set to join Ange Postecoglou’s backroom staff.

The Australian did not bring any of his own staff when he initially took over at Parkhead last summer (2021), instead choosing to work with John Kennedy, Stephen McManus, Gavin Strachan and Stevie Woods.

Kewell has been out of work since being sacked by Barnet earlier this year and he also had spells in charge of Crawley, Notts County and Oldham.

Asked whether bringing the 43-year-old to the club would help the players, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “100 per cent.

“The wingers in the team especially will be looking at Harry Kewell thinking ‘I remember you at Leeds, Liverpool and how good of a winger you were’. He had great technique and shooting.

“Definitely they will want to learn off him. I always think it’s a good idea to have ex-players who have played the game to be around and help. They can give their experiences of football and coaching to players.”

Kewell scored 57 times and provided 21 assists in 272 Premier League games for Leeds United and Liverpool and he won the Champions League and FA Cup with Liverpool.

He also won 56 caps for Australia, scoring 17 goals but his international career ended a year before Postecoglou became the manager of the Socceroos.

In other news, Celtic have agreed a £10million signing as new details emerge.
