Celtic handed big blow as image emerges after Taylor injury setback - pundit

Alan Hutton has admitted Celtic have been handed a big blow with Greg Taylor set for a spell on the sidelines after surgery.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers defender insisted the 23-year-old is the sort of consistent performer Ange Postecoglou would want at his disposal after a shaky start to the season.

Taylor posted to his Instagram story on Monday (20th September), as relayed by Twitter page The Parkhead Faithful, to confirm the surgery on his shoulder injury was a success.

The Daily Record claim the defender could be out of action for as long as two months.

His absence saw Boli Bolingoli make a shock return to the starting XI against Livingston.

Natural right-back Josip Juranovic also filled in for the Scotland international.

With a lack of left-back options at Postecoglou’s disposal, Hutton admitted Taylor’s layoff could be a heavy blow for the Bhoys.

“I think they’re quite short when it comes to left-back in terms of strength of depth,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“With Greg Taylor, you know what you’re getting week in, week out. I don’t think he’s ever going to give you a ten out of ten. However, he’s never going to be a five.

“He’s always going to be a seven or an eight. Managers like those type of players. Juranovic has slotted in there before, with Ralston at right-back. Whether that’s a thing going forward.

“Maybe the manager thought that (game v Livingston) was a chance to have a real good look at Bolingoli. I think we’ll find out more in the next Premiership game if he starts again.

“If not, then maybe the manager wasn’t having him. We will know a lot more in the upcoming weeks.”
