Rangers are not going to pull out of their recently-announced game against Celtic in Australia.

That's according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the controversial trip.

On 2 March, the Australian A-League confirmed Celtic will face Rangers in a mid-season friendly down under in November as part of an event billed as "Ange's Homecoming".

However, as per The Daily Record (17 March), Rangers are now considering "aborting" their plans to play the friendly fixture after a backlash from fans.

The report also claims the Gers will receive a seven-figure fine if they pull out.

However, McAvennie insists the Light Blues won't pull out of the event because of their financial situation.

"They aren't going to pull out," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"The whole reason they are doing this is to make money, they aren't going to lose money and not do it.

"I'm sorry, but I'm not having it, these Rangers fans who aren't happy about this.

"Scottish football needs the money. it's that simple.

"They need this money. Then you think about the fans. Celtic and Rangers are two of the biggest clubs all over the world.

"There are a load of Celtic and Rangers fans over in Australia. They will get up at god knows what hour every weekend to watch their team.

"So now they have this chance to see them in the flesh and people aren't happy about that.

"I don't get it, I really don't. It will be streamed back here as well so anyone who wants to watch it will be able to.

"I don't know what all the fuss is about if I'm completely honest."
