Celtic idol slams former Rangers star Ally McCoist - 'no respect'
Rangers legend Ally McCoist has been slammed for overreacting to Scotland fans booing the English national anthem.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie said that there is “no respect” in football nowadays.
Thousands of Tartan Army members inside Hampden booed the rendition of the English anthem to the point where fans in the ground, and watching at home, struggled to hear it.
As quoted by the Mirror (13 September), the former Gers goalscorer said the Scotland fans were “out of order” for booing God Save the King before kick off when Scotland faced England on Tuesday (12 September).
McCoist said it shows a “lack of respect” for the other country and doesn’t like to see any country’s national anthem being jeered at.
McAvennie disagreed with McCoist and insisted it’s not a recent phenomenon.

“It seems to be that everyone is talking about this as if it is a new thing but it is not,” he told Football Insider.
“They have always booed the national anthem and England fans will always boo Flower of Scotland, it is just the way they are.
“I understand him talking about respect but there is no respect anymore. The England fans were vocal during the minute’s silence for Craig Brown, it is just football supporters. I would not say it is anything new.
“Everyone is making a big thing out of it but I do not think it was.“
