Celtic: Keith Wyness reveals what he is ‘hearing’ about Hearts ‘still winning the league’
Celtic could be stripped of the Scottish Premiership trophy if the final whistle was not blown in their final day title decider against Hearts.
That is according to former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, who still believes Hearts could be awarded the title.
Hearts only needed a point on the final day to win the Scottish Premiership for the first time since 1960, but Derek McInnes’ side fell to two late goals at Celtic to ensure the Hoops retained their crown.
Following Callum Osmand’s 98th winner, Celtic fans invaded the pitch to celebrate their title victory, but there is uncertainty over whether referee Don Robertson blew the final whistle.
An SPFL statement said that the match had ended and was not abandoned, whilst Celtic are facing backlash for their fans being on the pitch.

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Hearts are collecting evidence to support their case that the final whistle was not blown.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness slams the authorities for leaving everyone “in the dark” over the situation.
| Stats/Club | Celtic | Hearts |
| Possession | 67% | 33% |
| Expected Goals | 2.82 | 0.94 |
| Shots | 14 | 12 |
| Big Chances | 4 | 1 |
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’m still getting my head around the whole thing and the conflicting stories that are coming out.
“I did say that Martin O’Neill’s experience would do it, but I must admit, I don’t know if the whole thing is finished yet. I really don’t.
“I’m hearing media rumours that Hearts were able to get an emergency injunction to secure all the audio, the tapes, all the things that went on. Did the referee actually blow his whistle? If he didn’t, then I’m afraid if the game was abandoned then there could be a 3-0 sanction.
“Now, these are all the conspiracy theories that are going on right now, but it has not been clear as to where this is. Once again, the SFA and the SPFL have left us a bit in the dark about this whole issue, and it doesn’t seem to be fully concluded.
“If it is an abandonment, then I still think Hearts could be awarded the league in that situation. But again, this is all going to come down to factual situations and not just hearsay.”
Ex-ref drops verdict on Celtic sanction
Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett, told Football Insider that Celtic could expect a points deduction for their pitch invasion against Hearts.
Hackett believes that a replay of the fixture is unlikely to happen, but this is not the first time this season that Celtic fans have invaded the pitch.
Celtic and Rangers supporters clashed at Ibrox in March following a Scottish Cup game, whilst Hoops fans have also celebrated a last-minute winner at Motherwell on the field of play.
Martin O’Neill’s side now prepare for their Scottish Cup final against Dunfermline at Hampden Park, where the majority of the stadium is expected to be taken up by Celtic support.
