Celtic made transfer decision on international attacker from top-flight runners-up - confirmed

Celtic decided to pull out a move to sign Kairat Almaty attacker Bauyrzhan Islamkhan, it has been confirmed by his agent.
Daguev Timur has stated that Islamkhan, 24, was on the radar of the Hoops, but the Scottish giants opted against stepping up their pursuit of the Kazakhstan international due to his lack of physicality.
Islamkhan plays in the top-flight of his home nation in Kazakhstan with Kairat Almat, who finished runners-up in the nation’s Premier League in 2017.
It is confirmed that Celtic liked the look of the attacking midfielder because of his intelligence, but the player’s agent seems to have suggested that he will not be on his way to Parkhead any time in the near future.
“Celtic looked at Bauyrzhan very closely and liked him a lot,” said Timur, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“They liked the fact he is an intelligent player and thought he was up to the standard of their club.
“But you know what British football is like and how physical it can be.
“Celtic weren’t completely convinced he would be able to handle the physical side of the game and pulled out.
“It’s a shame because in terms of ability, he has everything and is certainly technically gifted.
“He just needs to work on what we would call his football anger.”
Islamkhan is the captain for Kairat Almaty and was in hot form for them in the Kazakhstan Premier League last season.
He scored 11 goals and supplied 10 assists in 27 league outings as Almaty finished in second place.
Football Insider verdict
Rodgers looks as though he is sending his scouts to some niche countries to find new players. In the summer it was Rivaldo Coetzee from South Africa and it now seems like Islamkhan has caught his eye in Kazakhstan. It’s understandable that the Hoops have pulled out of a move to sign the 24-year-old though. Signing a player from such a league is very risky and Kairat Almaty may also want a hefty fee considering Islamkhan is their club captain and a fully fledged international. He was probably one of the attacking midfielders the Bhoys were looking at before they got Charly Musonda on loan from Chelsea.
