Odsonne Edouard has sensationally indicated to Celtic chiefs he is willing to sign a new contract this summer and spearhead the club’s 10-in-a-row pursuit, Football Insider has learned.
This site revealed last week the Scottish champions have slapped a new £40million price tag on their star player to ward off the many teams trying to sign him.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that Edouard has revealed in transfer discussions with club chiefs that he may turn his back on a move down south to pen a bumper new deal.
An agreement is not yet in place with the centre-forward but there is growing confidence a deal can be done.
Edouard’s current deal expires in 2022 and that has placed his future in doubt on the back of a season in which he won the Scottish player of the year award for his goal heroics.
Top Premier League clubs have been strongly linked with the Frenchman, 22, and their interest is genuine.
But Edouard could now put a mega-money transfer on hold to commit to Celtic.
The club are keen for him to sign a five-year contract that would also include a major pay hike.
Chief executive Peter Lawwell and the Hoops board are in no doubt about the significance of Edouard to the team’s dream of a historic 10 consecutive league titles.
Edouard signed a four-year contract in the summer of 2018 when his initial season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain was converted into a club-record £9million transfer.
His 45 Celtic appearances last season yielded 27 goals and 19 assists while he also banged in a remarkable 11 goals in just six France Under-21s matches.
