Celtic: Marcelo Saracchi move is a no-brainer amid Andy Robertson uncertainty

Celtic are right to be accelerating a permanent move for Marcelo Saracchi as uncertainty lingers around their pursuit of Liverpool’s Andy Robertson.

The Hoops are in the market for a permanent left-back addition this summer to provide competition to Kieran Tierney.

Saracchi has impressed while on loan from Boca Juniors, and Celtic are reportedly keen on securing his services full time.

They have also been mooted to offer Robertson a contract this summer, as he prepares to leave Liverpool and mulls over what his next move should be.

It remains to be seen if the Scotland captain is part of Celtic’s transfer plans, but it makes sense to plot a permanent move for Saracchi in the meantime.

Sources told Football Insider last month that Celtic were interested in signing Saracchi permanently, with a deal set to hinge on his personal stance.

A new report from Uruguayan journalist German Garcia Grova states that the Hoops do intend to make a permanent move for the 28-year-old, with negotiations set to take place next month.

Saracchi has been an able deputy for Tierney throughout this season, earning plaudits for the way he has slotted into the Celtic starting eleven when needed.

He is only just coming up on 30-years-old and seems content to play second fiddle at left-back, so it clearly makes sense to accelerate a permanent move.

Robertson has been closely linked to his boyhood club, but would surely want to be a regular starter, which could cause friction with his international teammate, Tierney.

Robertson move seems unlikely as Celtic explore alternatives

Robertson proved his quality once more with a goal for Liverpool as they beat Crystal Palace 3-1 on Saturday.

It could well be his last for the club as he prepares to leave this summer, but despite him being open to joining Celtic, a move has not progressed in the last few months.

Tottenham remain interested in the 32-year-old, while Atletico Madrid have recently reportedly rejoined the race to sign him.

Both clubs seem more appealing to Robertson from a financial and competitive viewpoint, so Celtic could well end up wasting their time if they concentrate on landing his services.

At this point in time, it certainly makes a lot of sense for the Glasgow giants to be stepping up a move for Saracchi, especially as continuity will be key this summer ahead of a whole host of changes to players and staff.
